Director of Operations for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Gaza Strip (UNRWA) Bo Schack praised Qatar for its support of Palestinian people through the implementation of different projects and programmes, especially in the Gaza Strip.
Bo Schack said Qatar contributed to the development of the infrastructure in the sector and worked to fund many education, health and relief projects, adding that there is co-ordination and co-operation with Qatar through their own representative institutions in Gaza by implementing projects and development programmes for necessary areas of life in Gaza.
He described the blockade of the Gaza Strip as a great tragedy adding the destruction of the private sector has a negative impact on job creation in addition to its impact on issues related to water, energy and movement.
He said the Gaza Reconstruction Mechanism (GRM) was created as a temporary measure to deal with the situation in the sector, pointing out that this mechanism has made some progress, but it’s not a process that can work forever.
Bo Schack said that he had experienced a variety of reconstruction in a number of countries including Europe and the reconstruction of houses in Afghanistan, stressing that the process of reconstruction is one of the most difficult processes in any context.
