‘I’m not going to change my approach. I need to keep doing what helps me perform at my best and that’s going for the win every time’

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg can clinch his maiden Formula One world title with a second and third place finish in the remaining races of the season but intends to settle matters quickly with victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“I’m not going to change my approach,” Rosberg said on the Formula One website. “I need to keep doing what helps me perform at my best and that’s going for the win every time.
“There are still two races to go and anything can happen in this sport, so I need to focus my energy on the factors that I have in my control.”
Rosberg leads teammate and defending champion Lewis Hamilton by 19 points meaning victory in Sao Paolo on Sunday – where he has won the last two years – would clinch the title.
“I’ve got good form in Sao Paulo,” the German added. “It’s one of the real classic tracks, which usually produce some exciting races, so I’m looking forward to getting out there and having a big battle in front of those awesome Brazilian fans.”
Hamilton, plagued by poor starts and mechanical difficulties earlier in the season, has walked a tightrope in the last two races.
He won from pole in both the United States and Mexico to keep his championship hopes alive.
“The speed has been there all season – I just haven’t always had the opportunity to take advantage of it,” Hamilton said. “In terms of the championship, it’s an unusual scenario to be in – fighting for something and not knowing for sure that what you do will guarantee you’re able to make it.
“One outcome would be painful and the other would be a great achievement. Regardless, I’m going to keep pushing.”
The Interlagos track is one of the few on the calender which has not seen a Hamilton victory.
But Sao Paolo does have good memories for the Briton as it was there in 2008 he secured his first title with a last-lap pass on Timo Glock to secure the decisive points.
“Since the beginning of my Formula One career I’ve seen that everything can change even at the very last moment, so you have to fight to the bitter end,” he said.
“I’ve never won in Brazil, so I go into this weekend focused on changing that.”
Should Hamilton win, the championship will then be decided at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 27 – regardless of Rosberg’s performance in Brazil. Now to see what happens in the race.
