Senegal president backs Qatar’s candidate for post of Unesco chief

President Macky Sall of Senegal met yesterday in Dakar with HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of the director general of the Organisation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).
During the meeting, HE Dr al-Kuwari conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the president of Senegal, and his wishes of more progress and prosperity to the Senegalese people.
The Senegalese President asked HE Dr al-Kuwari to convey his greetings to HH the Emir, and wished the people of Qatar further prosperity.
The Senegalese president expressed his confidence in the capabilities of the Qatari candidate, wishing him success.
HE Dr al-Kuwari gave a brief on his vision as a candidate for Unesco director, the importance of Africa and related programmes of the organisation, and thanked Senegal for its firm support for this nomination which, he said, reflects the depth of ties between Qatar and Senegal.
On the occasion Dr al-Kuwari gave the Senegalese president a copy of his book  Global Majlis issued in French.
The meeting was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Senegal Sarai bin Ali al-Qahtani.
