Panarin goal lifts Blackhawks to victory over Blues

Artemi Panarin’s goal 25 seconds into overtime gave the Blackhawks a 2-1 victory over the Blues. The Hawks’ winning streak is now at seven games.
St. Louis’ Alex Pietrangelo tied the game 17 minutes, 49 seconds into the third period. The Blackhawks led the Blues 1-0 after the second period.
It was a fairly uneventful first period for both teams 5-on-5 as each had its trouble hanging onto the puck and generating chances. The Blues led in shots on goal 8-6.
The Hawks’ best chance to score was on a 5-on-3 power play early in the period. The Hawks ended up with 1:36 of 5-on-3 time after penalties on Kevin Shattenkirk and Alex Pietrangelo. The Hawks had two shots during that power play but came up empty. Corey Crawford was strong in the net for the Hawks with eight saves.
The Hawks finally broke the monotony in the second period when Marian Hossa put home a rebound off a shot from Gustav Forsling.
Center Artem Anisimov, who had an 11-game point streak entering Wednesday, went to the dressing room in the second period and did not return before the end of the period.
Before the game, Jonathan Toews came up limping during the Hawks’ morning skater after battling for the puck with Ryan Hartman. Toews’ left leg looked as if it was causing him pain and discomfort; however, he finished practice and said he was OK.
“It’s all good,” Toews said.
The Hawks faced the Blues this season in their opening game, a 5-2 loss at the United Center.
