More than 150 undergraduate students from 11 countries will present their research papers at the First World Congress on Undergraduate Research 2016 in Doha from November 13 to 15.
Organised by the Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS), the event will serve as a platform for students from higher education institutions in the country and beyond to showcase their communication and leadership skills.
“This conference highlights the pivotal role of QU in general and CAS in particular in advancing a vibrant research culture among students and in motivating students to continue honing their research skills,” CAS dean Dr Rashid al-Kuwari told reporters at a press conference recently.
He said event also demonstrates QU’s capacity to provide its students with an inspiring learning environment by which they can engage their talents and potential towards academic success and lifelong learning.
The conference is organised in conjunction with the Council on Undergraduate Research - USA, the British Conference of Undergraduate Research, and the Australasian Council for Undergraduate Research.
The programme agenda will comprise panel discussions on several topics, including international collaboration and funding opportunities, and application of research to solve world problems, among others.
Poster and oral sessions, and thematic working seminars will see students and faculty discussing the major themes highlighted at the World Congress such climate change, environment and sustainability, global health, ‘war and peace in the 21st Century, and ‘The world we live in and the world we make.’
“The conference is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to share their views on various topics,” associate professor at CAS Department of Social Sciences and Conference chair Dr Maher Khalifa said.
“At CAS, we believe in the importance of the holistic development of students, and value initiatives and opportunities that promote student learning and growth,” the assistant professor added.
