Fog and poor visibility expected in some areas
Foggy conditions and poor visibility are expected at some places in the early hours today, the Qatar Met department has said. Visibility may drop to 2km or less during this period. Advising people to be cautious, the Met department tweeted yesterday evening that thick fog was being observed in northern Qatar along with “zero visibility” in places like Al Shehaimiya, Ghuwairiyah and the Ruwais road. A few hours earlier, it said high humidity was being reported and misty-to-foggy conditions were expected over some areas late at night and early in the morning. It also re-issued an advisory, prepared in co-ordination with the Ministry of Interior, on safe driving in foggy weather.

Supermoon to be biggest in 68 years
People in Qatar will tomorrow witness a supermoon when the moon will appear larger than it has since 1948, Qatar Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences has said. Sheikh Salman bin Jabor al-Thani, president of the centre, said that according to astronomical calculations the supermoon would appear bigger than the usual full moon by around 14%. It will also appear brighter by around 30%. It will be best visible from darker areas. A supermoon occurs when the moon is slightly closer to Earth than it typically is, and the effect is most noticeable when it occurs around the same time as a full moon.
