Qatar men clinch silver medal in Team Trap, women take bronze in 50m Rifle 60 Prone

Qatar opened its account at the 49th CISM World Military Shooting Championship by clinching a silver and bronze in the team events at the Losail Shooting Range yesterday.
Qatar finished second in the men’s team event of Trap, behind China, while Qatar women’s team took the bronze in the 50m Rifle 60 Prone.
In the men’s Team Trap, China took the gold with Italy taking bronze. Democratic People’s Republic of Korea took the gold ahead of China and hosts Qatar in the women’s event.
In the 50m Rifle 60 Prone women’s team event, China took first place ahead of Germany. Both teams finished with the same total of points but China managed to take the gold thanks to a better result in the last series.
Two Olympic medallists and two Olympic records-holders will compete in the CISM event this year — Sylwia Bogacka (Poland), silver medallist at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the 10m Air Rifle event; Jean Quiquampoix (France), silver medallist in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at the Rio 2016 Games; Alexey Klimov (Russia), Olympic record holder at the London 2012 Games (592) in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol; and Low Andreas (Germany), Olympic record holder at the Rio 2016 (140) in men’s Double Trap.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Doping Committee, headed by Dr Fatma Khamis al-Malki, had to gather to talk about the situation and check if they would have enough tests until the end of the championships.
“Indeed, every new world record holder has to be tested for drugs. The Anti-Doping
Committee is working in the shadow, but I really want to thank them for their support and hard work,” said CISM’s Colonel Bruno Wolfensberger.
Qatar is hosting participants from 50 countries worldwide. Some 720 male and female shooters will take part in the championship that ends on November 19.
This is the second time Qatar is hosting a major military shooting championship. In 2013, Qatar Armed Forces in collaboration with CSIM had hosted the Second CISM International Shotgun Championship at the Losail Shooting Complex.
