Further details and updates will be provided as the weather system approaches, the department has said.
In a statement on Thursday, the Met department said weather charts indicate that “the region will be affected by a state of atmospheric instability by the end of next week due to the presence of a low-pressure system in the upper levels of the atmosphere”.
According to preliminary forecasts, “cloud formations are expected to cross the country in intermittent periods from November 23 until the end of the month with a chance of scattered rain over some areas”, the statement points out.
It was reported earlier that the rainy season could begin on October 16 and continue for 52 days.
The Met department had then urged the competent authorities to make adequate preparations for the rainy spell.
Late last month, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Ministry of Municipality and Environment charted out a joint action plan to take precautions in the event of rain.
A number of steps and preparedness procedures were proposed at a meeting to deal with any situation arising out of rainfall in different parts of the country.
Also, calls were made to enhance collaboration and co-ordination between the entities concerned.
Different municipalities have already carried out rain-preparedness works in their respective areas.
It could be recalled that heavy rain had thrown life of gear on November 25 last year, with a number of roads being flooded and buildings developing leaks.
The country again experienced heavy showers a month later.
Meanwhile, the ongoing spell of fog and low visibility is likely to continue on Friday.
The detailed forecast says misty/foggy conditions are expected in most places in the early hours of the day along with poor visibility, which may drop to 2km or less.
This is to be followed by mild conditions during the daytime with some clouds, while it will be relatively cold by night.
Hazy to misty conditions are also likely in some offshore areas at first along with clouds.
A minimum temperature of 15C is expected in Abu Samra and 16C in Dukhan on Friday, while in Doha it will be relatively higher at 21C.
The maximum, on the other hand, will be 30C in Doha.
On Thursday, a minimum temperature of 14C was recorded in Al Sheehaniya, Abu Samra and some other places, followed by 15C in Dukhan.
In the capital, a minimum of 20C was recorded in the Qatar University area.
The maximum, meanwhile, was 32C in Batna, Al Sheehaniya and other places.
