German women won the 50m Rifle Three positions 3x20 team gold medal at the 49th CISM World Military Shooting Championship yesterday.
At the Losail Shooting Range, the German team comprising of Lisa Muller, Jolyn Beer and Silvia Rachel scored a total of 1750-84x to finish at the top.
The Swiss trio of Nina Christen, Vanessa Hofstetter and Myriam Bruehwiler (1740-80x) won the silver while the Russian team of Iuliia Karimova, Mariia Feklistova and Alena Nizkoshapskaia (1740-78x) clinched bronze.
The 50m Rifle 3 position event consists of firing while kneeling, prone (lying on stomach) and standing, in that order.
Host Qatar, with Oleg Engachev, Ivan Bidniak and Konstantin Maltsev on the range, shot their way to a bronze medal finish in the 25m center fire pistol team event to take the country’s tally to one silver and two bronze medals.
Earlier, Qatar finished second in men’s team event of Trap, finishing behind China, while the women’s team took the bronze in the 50m Rifle 60 Prone. In the men’s team Trap, China took first place while Italy finished third position. In the women’s Trap team event, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea took the gold medal ahead of China. Qatar took the bronze.
Dutch Ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Bahia Tahzib-Lie, visited the shooting range yesterday and appreciated CISM’s motto ‘Friendship through Sport’. On the occasion, president of the Qatar Military Sports Association, Major General Dahlan al-Ahmed presented a memento to Dr Bahia.
Championship Director Brig. General Nasr al-Hitmi and Head of Media Committee Brig. General Rashed Mahboub al-Dosari were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, an exhibition featuring international companies specialising in shooting products is being held on the sidelines of the championship. The latest shooting ammunition in the form of pistols, guns and rifles are on display and the companies are providing technical support to the participants.
