Jail term of motorist in fatal crash reduced

The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence of an expatriate motorist to six months in jail and a fine of QR20,000 for fatally running over a young girl with his vehicle.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the court also ordered the defendant to pay a sum of QR200,000 as blood money in collaboration with the insurance company.
The court acquitted the defendant of premeditated murder charges. The girl was killed when the defendant run over her with his vehicle as he was reversing.
A Doha criminal court has ordered another expatriate man to pay QR70,000 in collaboration with the insurance company to a person he hit with his vehicle while the latter was crossing the road.
Arrayah reported that the court also fined the motorist QR200 for reckless driving. The victim, a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road at the time of the accident, sustained 35% disability. The court convicted the defendant of reckless driving that caused harm to other road users.
