RasGas has recorded a 93% decrease in Total Recordable Injuries Rate (TRIR) between 2005 and 2015, while the Lost-Time Injuries Rate (LTIR) went down by 94%, the company has said.
The achievement, according to RasGas, was due to its “rigorous and systematic approach” to personal and process safety, making the company an industry leader in safety and health performance.
RasGas chief safety, health, environment and quality officer Khalid Thamer al-Hemaidi said the company’s zero-incident approach not only shapes safety efforts across the business, but also sends a “powerful message” to employees that their “wellbeing is a top priority in our organisation.”
A 2015 employee survey revealed that 93% of RasGas employees view the company’s safety culture as a key strength, and ‘commitment to safety’ has been the highest ranking company value in the last four RasGas organisational climate surveys.
Addressing a panel session at the ‘10th International Petroleum Technology Conference’ (IPTC) in Bangkok, Thailand, al-Hemaidi emphasised the importance of leaders in ensuring a robust safety culture within an organisation.
“In an industry that faces significant health and safety challenges, RasGas maintains a strong safety culture where ‘nobody gets hurt’. This culture is deeply embedded throughout the company by our leaders, who demonstrate their commitment to safety every day,” al-Hemaidi said during a session titled ‘Targeting Perfect HSSE Culture, Sustainability and Community Harmony’.
He continued: “Effective leaders are able to drive such a culture, as it is underpinned by trust and accountability, going beyond policies and procedures. It is a mind-set, a set of unwritten standards and behaviours that every leader at RasGas is expected to have.”
RasGas is not only an industry leader in safety but also continues to develop new methodologies to improve best practice within the organisation.
RasGas Reservoir Engineering adviser Cristopher Leon Aguilar shed light on a new methodology that helped enhance the multi-layer Pressure Transient Analysis of post-completion and surveillance commingled well tests at RasGas during the ‘Integrated Reservoir Management II’ session at IPTC.
