K M Varghese was re-elected unopposed as the president of the Indian Business & Professional Network (IBPN).
The meeting, which was scheduled to be held today to elect the president and managing committee members of the Indian business body, has been called off, according to an Indian embassy statement.
“The elections to Indian Business & Professionals Network is not needed since the candidates who had submitted their nominations were elected unopposed,” Dinesh Udenia, first secretary and election officer said.
Varghese said, “We have taken a number of initiatives, most of which are very unique and undertaken for the first time by IBPN. It is very important to have continuity and I am thankful to the members for reposing their trust in me and my team.”
Five managing committee members have also been elected unopposed. They are Kala Gopalakrishnan, Sujata Zinzuwadia, Waseem Ahmed Shaikh, Mohamed Ansari and T M Kabeer. All of them were also part of the current managing committee along with Varghese, who earlier served as president of Indian Cultural Centre from 2008 to 2012.
The remaining three positions will be filled by a nomination process by the Indian ambassador, who is also the IBPN patron, complying with the constitution of the forum.
