Prospective graduate students will be offered a unique chance to experience a taste of academic life at a special Graduate Open House hosted by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) tomorrow.
HBKU, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, will hold the event from 4.30pm to 8.30pm at the HBKU Student Centre in Education City.  
Faculty members, deans, admissions staff, and current students will be available to meet with prospective students and answer questions about the programmes on offer, as well as the admissions process at HBKU.
In addition, attendees will have the chance to experience a range of sample class activities offered by HBKU professors, providing interested candidates with a glimpse into their potential future. There will also be demonstrations by professors of projects currently being undertaken at HBKU.
HBKU offers graduate degrees in the fields of cyber security, data science, computer science and engineering, sustainability, biological and biomedical sciences, law, translation studies, audiovisual translation, Islamic studies, Islamic finance, and energy and resources.
Dr Joselia Neves, associate professor at HBKU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences will give participants the opportunity to interact with the “Art Translates” inclusive art project undertaken by her students that allows blind people to enjoy paintings through touch and audio description, and Dr Antoine Hyafil, director, Academic Programmes at HBKU’s Executive Education Centre, will host an interactive discussion that centres on the challenges facing the energy and resource sector.
Dr Tarek al-Ansari, assistant professor with the College of Science and Engineering will consider sustainable development as the key to the future and professors from the College of Law and Public Policy will be exploring a legal problem with attendees of the Graduate Open House and showing innovative ways to solve them.
Nasser al-Binali, head, Student Recruitment at HBKU, commented: “Our offerings across our colleges explore advanced multidisciplinary investigation of ideas and develop leadership skills that will equip students to take their careers to the next level. Those attending the Open House will be given the opportunity to briefly immerse themselves in student life at HBKU, which is home to exceptional faculty and innovative research projects.”
Those interested in pursuing graduate study in the sciences, will also be able to learn about research internships and mentorship available to HBKU students through the HBKU College of Science and Engineering’s emphasis on close collaboration with the university’s three research institutes: Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, Qatar Computing Research Institute and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.
Dr Khaled Ben Letaief, provost at HBKU, added: “HBKU’s academic offerings have grown considerably in recent years. These programmes are also not only fairly new to HBKU, but new to the region as well, such as our Juris Doctor graduate law programme, our programme in audiovisual translation, and our master’s programme in data science and engineering.”
